Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -We will test typically developing children (aged 2-5 years), children with Down Syndrome, and children with Williams Syndrome. All participants have to be monolingual speakers of German. Moreover, Down syndrome children have to be diagnosed with Down Syndrome and children with Williams Syndrome with Williams Syndrome.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: hearing disabilities if tasks are too difficult for children then testing has to be stopped and the respective child's data has to be excluded

Statistical analyses of the different tests are supposed to show whether and the degree to which linguistic skills can predict numerical skills. Moreover, results should indicate whether there are differences between the different test groups. We will measure nonverbal IQ skills in order to account for differences in mental age. IQ will be included as a control variable. Main analyses wil include the predictions of numerical skills (level of counting: how good is the child at counting, level of understanding numbers (1-5), level of estimating numbers: weber fraction) by linguistic skills (e.g. percentage correctly produced plurals and quantifiers). We will use regression models, correlations as well as ANOVAs in order to test these outcomes.
