Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Borderline Personality Disorder Patients (arm 1 and arm 2, each N=20): - 18-55 years old - diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (DSM-IV-TR) with at least 5 criteria - given consent Healthy control subjects (arm 3, N=20): - 18-55 years old - no psychiatric diagnosis - given consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Borderline Personality Disorder Patients and healthy control subjects: - no lifetime-diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar-I/II disorder - no organic brain diseases - no severe internal or neurological diseases

Measuring instruments regarding emotion regulation: - pre and post: experiment (difference scores of positive and negative affect, emotional distress, skin conductance, heart rate) - questionnaires (only pre: german version of Emotion Regulation Questionnaire by Gross and John, Abler & Kessler, 2009; pre and post: german version of Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, DERS, Gratz & Roemer, 2004) Questionnaires regarding psychopathology (pre and post): - Borderline Symptom List in a version with 23 items (BSL-23, Bohus et al., 2009) - depression (Becks Depressionsinventar II, Hautzinger et al., 1995) - affective lability (Affective Lability Scale, Harvey et al., 1989) - state and trait anxiety (State Trait Anxiety Inventory, Spielberger et al., 1970) - trait anger expression (State Trait Anger Expression Inventory, Spielberger et al., 1999) - dissociation (DSS-4, Stiglmayr et al., 2009) - arousal (Self Assessment Manekin, SAM) - Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (Downey & Feldman, 1996)
