Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Diagnosed, binocular senile cataract that requires surgical intervention, graded according to the LOCS II scale (Chylack et al., 1993), German mother tongue, binocular distant visual acuity = 0.4 (corrected)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Other visual acuity limiting diseases of the eye as well as the following pre-existing conditions in case they limit the participant's visual acuity: heart attack, stroke, diabetes, alcoholism, traumatic brain injury, pulmonary emphysema, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease; and the use of psychotropic drugs and morphine. Additional exclusion criteria for the postoperative testing: participants whose binocular distant visual acuity (corrected) has not improved at the ophthalmologic check-up (approximately 6 weeks after surgery on the second eye) as compared with the preoperative visual acuity testing. The same applies for participants that show new, so far not diagnosed, visual acuity limiting diseases of the eye at the postoperative ophthalmologic check-up.
