Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criterion for all participants: Clinical evidence of gingivitis in at least five of six tested papillae; Inclusion criterion for patients with atopic dermatitis: clinically diagnosed atopic dermatitis according to the diagnosis criteria by Hanifin & Rajka (1980)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for all participants were: untreated caries, defective fillings, inadequate dental restoration, probing depths above 3mm, major periodontal recessions or dental or othodontic treatment during the study, other diseases of the immune system, acute symptoms of rhinitis, chronic psychiatric or other somatic diseases (including asthma), chronic medication (besides contraceptives in women), any infectious diseases, any use of antibiotics and inoculations 4 weeks prior to the study, a body mass index 30 kg/sqm, drug abuse, excessive alcohol comsumption, work in 3 shifts, pregnancy or lactation, prior participation in a stress management training or in a study including stress induction.
