Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -All patients with esophageal and or gastric cancer which are hospitalised in the department of general and visceral surgery of the university hospital cologne. -The written consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Patients which are not hospitalised. - Severe COPD (Gold 3+4) - Severe Astma bronchiale - Other severe pulmonary diseases. - Advanced heart failure (NYHA 3+4) - Severe coronary heart disease. - High grade aortic valve stenosis or other high grade cardial valve defects. - AV block 2°+3° or other high grade cardial conduction defects. - High grad Tachykardia - Other high grade cardial underlying diseases. - Severe Hypertonia. - Severe osseous instabilities - Severe neurological or psychological disorders.

MeasureTime frame
Measuring of the physical performance with the modified WHO-Test on a bicycle spiroergometry and comparing the results to an average population.

- Pulmonary function via pulmonary function test - Strength via "One Repetition Maximum Test" - Determination of the lactat level from bloodserum - Cytokine patterns via ELISA - Coordination via force-measuring-plate - Cognition via Vienna Test System - Quality of life, fatigue, activity-level via questionnaires
