Group 1: The study is intended to collect data of 500 geriatric inpatients with or without anemia for analysing prevalence of anemia in the elderly. Additional data respecting patients` iron state as

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: written consent in-patient anemia at admission with hemoglobin < 12 g/dl (women) and < 13 g/dl (men) iron deficiency at admission with ferritin < 30µg/dl or <100µg/dl with elevated CRP or ferritin 100-299µg/dl with transferrin saturation <20%

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: tumor associated anemia tumor therapy associated anemia participation in other study lack of written consent
