Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Gestational age < 18th week of gestation - Age = 18 years - BMI prior pregnancy = 18.5 kg/m2 - Sufficient German language skills - Written informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Multiple pregnancy - High-risk pregnancy, which prohibits study participation (contraindications to exercise) - Chronic diseases (e. g. diabetes, hypertension) - Psychiatric or psychosomatic diseases

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Proportion of pregnant women exceeding weight gain recommendation according to IOM guidelines [Institute of Medicine, 2009]. Gestational weight gain definition: last measured weight prior to delivery minus weight at booking [maternity card]

Secondary

- Characterization of participants and non-participants (socioeconomic, ethnical, BMI, etc.), [questionnaire] - Weight of the newborns, [birth record] - Pregnancy complications (gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, hypertension, thromboembolism), [maternity card] - Perinatal complications (induction of labor, caesarean or instrumental delivery, APGAR-Score, SGA, LGA etc.), [birth record] - Postpartum weight retention (4 and 12 month postpartum), [phone call] - Physical activity patterns, [International physical activity questionnaire] - Nutritional intake over the course of the study , [7 day dietary record] - Maternal biomarkers: Selected hormones and adipokines (e.g. insulin, adiponectin, leptin), [ELISA]
