Group 1: Observation: all patients who entered the study: frequency of positive CAM-ICU and ICDSC, sedation level at that time

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - sedation requirement at leat 48 hours - fluent in either German or French - age at least 18 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - no contraindication for sedation stop - absence of tetraplegia - presence of reduced ability to communicate (eg. bindness, deafness or dementia)

determination of CAM-ICU (Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit) (positive vs. negative), ICDSC (Intensive Care Delirium Scoring Checklist) (positive vs negative) and sedation level (Richmond Agitation/Sedation Score RASS) during sedation stop	—

- sedation stop done (yes vs no) if no, recording of reason - counting the frequeny of other new neurological abnormalities during daily clinical examination (eg polyneuropathie, stroke...)	—
