Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus - diabetic macular edema with given indication for focal or grid laser treatment - informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - media opacity (e.g. corneal scarring, vitreous haemorrhage, sinchisis scintillans) except from corticonuclear cataract - secondary cataract - multifocal intraocular lens - nystagm - extensive macular scarring or extensive hard exudates which interfere with the assesment of laser spots - dementia - physical or mental disability that impedes the examinations or laser treatment - any other retinal pathology exept from diabetic retinopathy
