Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 65 patients with acrophobia; 40 healthy matched controls

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • psychiatric disorder other than secific phobia (comorbidity according to DSM-IV-TR) • acute suicidal intent • epilepsy or other illness of the central nervous system (brain tumor, encephalitis) • migraine • concomitant psychotherapy • concomitant medication with psychotropic drugs • pregnancy • history of heart disease or psychotic disorder

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Severity of acophobic symptoms, evalued wiht Acrophobia Questionnaire (before and after each of the 3 exposures) and SUDS (Subjective Units of Discomfort; assessed during each of the 3 exposures)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Strength of autonomic arousal measured by the following pysiological measures: salivary Cortisol (during 1. exposure), heart rate and electrodermal activity (measured during all 3 exposures). In patients: Severity of height avoidance, measured by Behavioural Avoidance Test (before 2. and after 3. exposure).
