Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Stable hypercapnic COPD-patients who were already treated with home mechanical ventilation in the pressure-limited mode where included. Patients suffered from COPD stage IV according to GOLD-critiria. Mechanical ventilation was performed for at least two months and patients were admitted to hospital for routine control visit of NPPV.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who had evidence of acute respiratory failure (e.g. worsening symptoms during the last 2 weeks, a breathing frequency (fb) >30/min, a pH <7.35, or signs of respiratory infections) were excluded.
