Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. General Inclusion Criteria (1) All subjects scored above 40 on the Edinburgh Handedness Inventory (EHI) and were right-handed; (2) All participants had no history of neurological or musculoskeletal diseases; (3) No injuries occurred within three months prior to the experiment, and all subjects were capable of standing independently to complete the experimental tasks; (4) No high-intensity physical exercise was performed within 48 hours before the experiment. All participants maintained a good mental state and abstained from alcohol and caffeine intake; (5) None of the subjects took any medications that might affect cortical excitability, cognitive function, or mental status before the experiment; (6) All participants were free of physical fatigue and fasting state prior to testing; (7) All subjects voluntarily participated in this study and signed informed consent forms. 2. Group-Specific Inclusion Criteria (1) Young adult group: aged from 18 to 25 years old; (2) Elderly group: aged from 60 to 65 years old, with a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score of no less than 24, and a physical activity level of moderate or above assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. A history of psychiatric disorders, a history of drug abuse or regular medication use within the past three months; 2. Intake of excitatory substances such as caffeine or alcoholic beverages, or engagement in strenuous physical activities within 24 hours prior to the experiment; 3. Elderly subjects suffering from major illnesses.
