Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. adult patients aged >=18 years; 2. scheduled to undergo cardiac and major vascular surgery, including but not limited to: coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), cardiac valve replacement/repair, aortic surgery, and other cardiac surgeries requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. history of psychiatric or neurological disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), epilepsy, or cerebral infarction; 2. history of craniotomy; or at high risk of regurgitation and aspiration requiring rapid sequence induction (RSI); 3. history of alcohol, opioid, sedative, or other substance abuse; 4. hearing, speech, motor, or intellectual impairment; 5. known allergy to any study-related medications or sensors; 6. small forehead with insufficient space for simultaneous placement of cerebral oximetry and EEG sensors; 7. scheduled to undergo transcatheter or interventional cardiac procedures.
