Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged >= 50 years; 2. Meeting the AWGS 2025 diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia, defined as the presence of both low muscle strength and low muscle mass. Low muscle strength will be determined by handgrip strength, with cut-off values of < 34.0 kg for men and < 20.0 kg for women aged 50–64 years, and < 28.0 kg for men and <18.0 kg for women aged =65 years. Low muscle mass will be determined by appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis, with cut-off values of <7.6 kg/m² for men and < 5.7 kg/m² for women aged 50–64 years, and <7.0 kg/m² for men and < 5.7 kg/m² for women aged =65 years; 3. Able to walk independently without the use of walking aids, and able to complete the TUG, SPPB, and training-related movements; 4. Able to understand the study purpose and procedures, voluntarily participate in the study, and provide written informed consent; 5. No participation in structured regular exercise training within the past 3 months, including Tai Chi, resistance training, balance training, or other systematic functional training; 6. Considered by the researchers to be able to safely participate in low- to moderate-intensity exercise training after screening.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Presence of severe cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic diseases, or other contraindications to exercise, and judged by the researchers to be unsuitable for participation in low- to moderate-intensity exercise training; 2. Lower-limb fracture, severe lower-limb injury, or lower-limb surgery within the past 6 months, or severe hip, knee, or ankle pain and marked limitation of joint mobility that may affect the completion of training or assessments; 3. Diseases or functional impairments that may significantly affect gait, balance, motor control, or cooperation with assessments, such as Parkinson’s disease, marked motor impairment after stroke, severe peripheral neuropathy, severe vestibular dysfunction, or severe cognitive impairment; 4. Conditions that may affect the safety or accuracy of bioelectrical impedance analysis, such as implanted electronic medical devices, marked edema, or other conditions judged by the researchers to be unsuitable for bioelectrical impedance analysis; 5. Current participation in other exercise, nutritional, pharmacological, or rehabilitation intervention studies that may affect muscle mass, muscle strength, physical function, or functional mobility.
