Control group:The doctor conducts a routine preoperative consultation with the patient
Experimental group:Based on the patient’s preoperative test results, the physician fills in the OCT-PRO model input fields and obtains the predicted postoperative BCVA.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Cataract patients aged 18 or older who are scheduled to undergo phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation; 2.Diagnosed with age-related/complicated/metabolic cataracts; 3.For patients with bilateral cataracts, the eye with the more severe cataract was included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.The eye scheduled for surgery has a history of amblyopia or neuro-ophthalmological conditions. 2.The OCT images of the eye scheduled for surgery are extremely blurry, making it impossible to identify the retinal structures. 3.The eye scheduled for surgery has a history of intraocular surgery; 4.Has a hearing or intellectual disability that prevents participation in the study;

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Mean absolute error (MAE) between the experimental group and the control group in predicting patients’ BCVA 1 week postoperatively compared to the actual values;

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Using a questionnaire with quantitative scoring, we assess patients' psychological expectations, informed choices, and overall satisfaction with cataract surgery.;Analyzing ophthalmologists' evaluations of the OCT-PRO model's assistance in surgical decision-making and doctor-patient communication using questionnaire-based scoring;Correlation indicators between the two sets of predicted values and the actual postoperative BCVA;
