Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA physical status II or III 2. Age >= 60 years 3. Scheduled for elective gastrointestinal surgery under general intravenous anesthesia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. MAP > 120 mmHg before anesthesia induction 2. Previous history of any neck surgery or trauma 3. Severe liver dysfunction (Child-Pugh class > A) 4. Renal insufficiency (serum creatinine > 177 µmol/L) 5. Severe cardiovascular disease (NYHA > class 2, implanted pacemaker or cardioverter-defibrillator) 6. Patients taking oral angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or oral angiotensin receptor blockers 7. Pregnant or lactating women 8. Surgery in the lateral or prone position 9. Poor ultrasound image quality 10. BMI > 30 kg/m² or < 15 kg/m²
