Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria for the Epilepsy with Comorbid Depression Group (Study Group): 1. Age between 15 and 59 years; 2. Underwent electroencephalography (EEG) or video-EEG monitoring in the Department of Neurosurgery; 3. Scored > 12 on the Chinese version of the C-NDDI-E scale; 4. Diagnosed with epilepsy according to ICD-10 or DSM-5 criteria; 5. Duration of epilepsy at least 1 year. Inclusion Criteria for the Epilepsy Group (Control Group): 1. Age between 15 and 59 years; 2. Underwent EEG or video-EEG monitoring in our department; 3. Scored <= 12 on the Chinese version of the C-NDDI-E scale; 4. Diagnosed with epilepsy according to ICD-10 or DSM-5 criteria, but without depressive symptoms; 5. Duration of epilepsy at least 1 year.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. There is a disturbance of consciousness; 2. Accompanied by systemic malignancy; 3. Clinical data are unknown; 4. Depressive symptoms are caused by brain tumors, craniocerebral trauma and other reasons; 5. Patients with other functional or organic mental disorders; 6. Pregnant or nursing female patients; 7. Patients with a history of drug or alcohol abuse. Exclusion Criteria for the Control Group: 1. Presence of impaired consciousness; 2. Concomitant systemic malignant tumors; 3. Incomplete clinical data; 4. Patients with comorbid other functional or organic mental disorders; 5. Female patients who are pregnant or lactating; 6. Patients with a history of drug or alcohol abuse. Diagnostic Criteria for Epilepsy with Comorbid Depression: 1. Persistent symptoms such as low mood, loss of interest, fatigue, decreased concentration, and changes in appetite and sleep. At least one of these symptoms must be present. 2. Rapid screening using a standardized scale: a score > 12 on the Chinese version of the NDDI-E (C-NDDI-E); 3. Depressive symptoms must have occurred after the diagnosis of epilepsy, and mood changes caused by other diseases or medications must be excluded; 4. Exclusion of depressive symptoms caused by other conditions such as brain tumors or traumatic brain injury.
