Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with central venous catheter (CVC) placement in the EICU; 2. Age >= 18 years; 3. Catheter indwelling time >= 48 h; 4. EICU length of stay >= 3 days.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. CVCs inserted for the purpose of hemodialysis; 2. Presence of other venous access, such as a PICC, in the same limb as the catheter insertion site; 3. Patients who develop severe systemic infection during the study period; 4. Patients who die during the course of the study.
