Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Aged 40–59 years, both genders; and length of residence in the Lingnan region (Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong, Macao) >=5 years. (2) Meet the diagnostic criteria for prediabetes (fasting plasma glucose 6.1–7.0 mmol/L, or 2-hour plasma glucose 7.8–11.0 mmol/L during an oral glucose tolerance test, or HbA1c 5.7%–6.5%). (3) Daily Lingnan Dietary Index (LDI) score <=50 (assessed by the Lingnan Dietary Frequency Questionnaire). (4) Have not participated in other dietary intervention studies in the past 3 months. (5) Voluntarily sign the informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Severe cardiac, hepatic, or renal dysfunction. (2) Digestive system diseases (inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhea, history of gastrointestinal surgery), gout, or severe hyperuricemia. (3) Allergy or intolerance to aquatic products or Lingnan-characteristic vegetables (e.g., bitter melon, okra, etc.). (4) Alcoholism. (5) Use of antibiotics, probiotics/prebiotics, or glucocorticoids within the past 3 months. (6) Pregnancy, lactation, or planning to become pregnant during the study period. (7) Concurrent participation in another clinical trial.
