Game-based Intervention Group:Positive Valence Gaming (PVG): Incorporating three psychological features—prompts and subthreshold stimuli, rewards and motivation, and graded challenges. 1 hour per day,
Psychoeducation Control Group:Psychological education materials on emotion regulation and enhancing motivation (computer-based instruction): Content consistent with the game intervention. 1 hour per d

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. having experienced at least one major life stress in the recent 5 years (see below); 2. fluency in oral or written Cantonese or Mandarin; 3. normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing; 4. IQ>90 as assessed with the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence, 4th edition.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. formal diagnosis of any major psychiatric illnesses or history of suicidal behaviour; 2. major physical illness, organic brain disorder or traumatic brain injury; 3. Intake of medication within the previous 6 months that may affect emotion or cognitive functions; 4. pregnancy (for women).
