Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients scheduled for elective thoracic surgery, aged >= 18 years; 2. American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification of I-III; 3. Planned for video-assisted thoracic surgery requiring one-lung ventilation (OLV); 4. Baseline arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) >= 60 mmHg (at rest, sea level).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Emergency surgery or patients undergoing a second thoracic surgery; 2.Presence of restrictive or obstructive ventilatory dysfunction (FEV1/FVC < 70% or TLC < 80% of predicted value); 3. Pre-existing active pulmonary infection or interstitial lung disease; 4. Severe hepatic or renal dysfunction (Child-Pugh Class C or eGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73m^2); 5. Pregnant or lactating women; 6. Patients with congenital heart disease.
