Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. All MDD subjects were aged between 12 and 17 years old and were right-handed. 2. Intelligence quotient >= 70 points. 3. The diagnosis of MDD was determined by two psychiatrists with 10 years and 8 years of clinical psychiatry experience respectively, based on the results of the clinical structured interview. MDD patients met the diagnostic criteria of Axis I disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fifth Edition, DSM-5). Inclusion and exclusion criteria for healthy controls: 1. HC subjects were recruited from the community and local schools through advertisements. 2. Age between 12 and 17 years old. 3. Gender matched with the MDD group. 4. All right-handed. 5. Neuro-psychological assessment and clinical assessment were conducted by 1 psychiatrist for the HC subjects. There was no biological connection between HC and MDD subjects.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Current or lifetime diagnosis of any other psychiatric disorder, including but not limited to: Bipolar Disorder Schizophrenia Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Schizoaffective Disorder Neurodevelopmental Disorders Depressive disorder due to substance use or another medical condition. 2.History of severe traumatic brain injury or neurological disease (e.g., brain injury, brain tumor, cerebral hemorrhage, brain inflammation, epilepsy, etc.). 3.Presence of a major or chronic physical illness currently under systematic treatment. 4.History of substance (alcohol or other drugs) abuse or dependence. 5.Contraindications for MRI scanning (e.g., stents, metal implants, claustrophobia, etc.).
