Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Subthreshold Depression Group (StD): (1) Age 60 years and above; (2) Long-term residence in the local area for 20 years or more to date; (3) Based on the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-30), those with a score >10 proceed to the next assessment, where a qualified psychiatrist from the provincial hospital conducts a clinical diagnosis according to DSM-5, and includes individuals assessed to have =2 depressive symptoms, lasting for at least two weeks, but not meeting the full diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder; (4) No communication or able to communicate after visual and hearing correction; (5) Right-handed (Chinese Handedness Scale); (6) Signed informed consent. 2. Healthy Control Group (HC): (1) No depressive-related diagnosis, screened with the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-30), with a score =10; (2) Other inclusion, exclusion, elimination, and dropout criteria same as StD group; (3) Matched with StD group in terms of gender, age, and education.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. T1 shows cerebral infarction (lacunar infarction >15 mm) or other vascular damage; 2. Severe physical illness that cannot be tolerated; 3. Diseases related to brain structural changes: such as brain tumors, metastatic tumor diseases; unstable physical illnesses, such as severe asthma; epilepsy and other neurodegenerative diseases; physical diseases that may cause mood disorder symptoms, such as multiple sclerosis, thyroid diseases, etc.; 4. Cognitive impairment detected by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) screening (MMSE score: illiterate group <=17 points, primary school group <=20 points, middle school and above group <=24 points); 5. Previous diagnosis of mental disorder or current mental disorder; 6. History of antipsychotic medication or alcoholism within the past 2 months; 7. Claustrophobia or metal implants in the body, unable to undergo MRI examination; 8. Participation in other projects during the study period; 9. Previous diagnosis of depression or bipolar disorder.
