Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Epilepsy with comorbid mood disorders group (COM group); 1. Age: 18–65 years; 2. Gender: Not restricted ;3. Compliance with the Diagnostic Criteria for Epilepsy (DCE) of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE); 4. According to the standardized scale, there is emotional disorder, which meets any of the following conditions: bdi>=14 (depression); Hama>=7 points (anxiety);5. Complete and traceable key clinical data and biological samples, including but not limited to demographic information, seizure and medication history, complete mood scale scores, complete blood count (CBC) and biochemical test results on the first day of hospitalization, available electroencephalogram (EEG) and neuroimaging (MRI/PET) data, as well as properly preserved peripheral blood, saliva, urine samples, and brain tissue. Simple epilepsy group (EPI group); 1. Age: 18–65 years; 2. Gender: Not restricted; 3. Meeting the diagnostic criteria for epilepsy as defined by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE); 4. No clinical diagnostic thresholds for depression or anxiety as assessed by HAMA, BDI, or HADS; 5. Matching with the COM group in terms of age, gender, disease duration, and presence of refractory epilepsy; 6. Complete and traceable key clinical data and biological samples, including but not limited to demographic information, seizure and medication history, complete mood scale scores, complete blood count and biochemical test results on the first day of hospitalization, available electroencephalogram (EEG) and neuroimaging (MRI/PET) data, as well as properly preserved peripheral blood, saliva, urine samples, and brain tissue. Healthy control group (CON group); 1. Age 18–65 years; 2. No gender restriction; 3. No history of epilepsy, depression, anxiety, or other neuropsychiatric disorders; 4. HAMA, BDI, and HADS scores below abnormal thresholds; 5. Age and gender matched with the patient group; 6. Complete and traceable key clinical data and biological samples, including but not limited to demographic information, complete mood scale scores, and properly preserved peripheral blood, saliva, and urine samples.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Epilepsy with comorbid mood disorders group (COM group); 1. Admission with other severe central nervous system disorders (e.g., stroke, neurodegenerative diseases, etc.); 2. Previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or other severe mental illnesses; 3. Admission with concurrent acute/chronic infections, systemic inflammatory diseases, or malignancies; 4. Pregnant or lactating women. Simple epilepsy group (EPI group); 1. Previous or current neurological or psychiatric disorders; 2. Concurrent acute/chronic infections, systemic inflammatory diseases, or immune system disorders at admission; 3. Severe somatic diseases or malignancies at admission; 4. Pregnant or lactating women. Healthy control group (CON group); 1. Previous or current neurological or psychiatric disorders; 2. Concurrent acute/chronic infections, systemic inflammatory diseases, or immune system disorders; 3. Concurrent severe somatic diseases or malignancies; 4. Pregnant or lactating women.
