60 Years to No maximum

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age >= 60 years, no gender restrictions. 2. Patients scheduled to undergo elective lower limb orthopaedic surgery within the next 3–12 months. 3. Conscious and able to comprehend the study content and independently sign the informed consent form, or have consent from their legal representative. 4. Able to cooperate with relevant examinations including muscle strength and physical function assessments. 5. Body Mass Index (BMI) range: 18.5 kg/m² <= BMI < 35.0 kg/m², to exclude extreme effects of malnutrition or severe obesity on muscle metabolism.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Conditions severely affecting muscle physiology or function: such as uncontrolled hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism, Cushing's syndrome, severe chronic kidney disease (eGFR 3 months) oral or injectable glucocorticoid therapy or other medications known to affect muscle mass. 5. Malnutrition, cachectic state. 6. Patients undergoing orthopaedic emergency surgery. 7. History of alcohol or substance abuse. 8. Inability to complete necessary baseline assessments or refusal to provide muscle samples.
