Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The depression group was included: 1. they met the diagnostic criteria for major depression in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5); 2. aged 18-65 years; 3. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17 (HAMD-17) total score >=17 points; 4. vision or corrected-to-normal vision (>=1.0); 5. able to understand and sign the informed consent form. Healthy controls were included: 1. aged 18-65 years old; 2. no history of mental illness or family history of mental illness; 3. total HAMD-17 score =1.0); 5. able to understand and sign the informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Excluded from the depression group are: 1. the presence of other mental illnesses (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance dependence, etc.); 2. the presence of serious physical diseases (such as epilepsy, stroke, history of craniocerebral trauma, etc.); 3. the presence of eye diseases that affect visual function (such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinopathy, etc.); 4. those who have participated in other clinical studies in the past month; 5. women who are pregnant or breastfeeding; 6. unable to complete test tasks or unwilling to cooperate with the research. Exclusions from the normal control group include: 1. those with severe physical diseases; 2. those with ophthalmic diseases that affect visual function; 3. those who have participated in other clinical studies within the past month; 4. women who are pregnant or lactating.
