Interventions

Blank control group:Maintain habitual dietary patterns without additional intervention.
Control group:Consume one regular fresh egg daily from Tuesday to Saturday
Monday and Sunday are designated as "non-egg days," during which no eggs or egg products are to be consumed.
Enriched Egg Group:Consume one ?-3-enriched fresh egg per day from Tuesday to Saturday. Monday and Sunday are designated as "non-egg days," during which no eggs or egg products are to be ingested.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients aged 65 years or older who are diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (MetS) by clinicians according to the diagnostic criteria in the Chinese Guidelines for Diabetes Prevention and Treatment (2024 Edition). MetS is diagnosed when at least three of the following criteria are met: (1) Abdominal obesity (central obesity): waist circumference >=90 cm in males or >=85 cm in females; (2) Hyperglycemia: fasting blood glucose >=6.1 mmol/L, or 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) blood glucose >=7.8 mmol/L, and/or previously diagnosed diabetes under treatment; (3) Elevated blood pressure: blood pressure >=130/85 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) and/or previously diagnosed hypertension under treatment; (4) Fasting triglycerides (TG) >=1.70 mmol/L; (5) Fasting HDL-C <1.04 mmol/L. 2. Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with severe hepatic or renal diseases, immunodeficiencies, severe or infectious diseases, type I diabetes, or complications such as malignant hypertension, malignant tumors, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or electrolyte disturbances; 2. Patients following special diets (e.g., for celiac disease, type I diabetes) or those who have changed their dietary patterns within 12 weeks before the start of the study; 3. Conditions that may significantly affect weight management, such as prior bariatric surgery, unintentional or intentional weight loss exceeding 5% in the past three months or 10% in the past six months; 4. Patients referred for diagnosed severe medical or psychiatric disorders, or those with intellectual, visual, or hearing impairments that may hinder compliance with the treatment; 5. Patients who have experienced acute diabetic complications or severe chronic complications such as cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events within the past month; 6. Use of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplements or medications that may affect lipid metabolism and influence study outcomes. (Information on medication use is collected during the initial screening visit as part of a medication questionnaire. This open-ended question requires participants to provide details of all prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as any oral supplements they are taking, including names and duration of use from start to discontinuation. Omega-3 fatty acid supplements are defined as fish oil, omega-3 fatty acids, PUFAs, DHA, EPA, or ALA. Self-reported information on omega-3 fatty acid supplementation is recorded during the initial screening visit.); 7. Individuals with an allergy to eggs.
