Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. elderly hypertensive patients (age 65-80 years, regardless of gender) scheduled to undergo non-cardiac surgery under general anaesthesia; 2. American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) classification II-III; 3. able to undergo rapid induction of general anaesthesia via endotracheal intubation; 4. be aware of and agree to participate in the trial and sign a written informed consent; 5. have a body mass index of 18-30 kg/m^2; 6. Invasive blood pressure monitoring is required.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. history of cerebral aneurysm or thoracic/abdominal aortic aneurysm 2. Allergy to any of the drugs used in the study 3. History of severe hepatic impairment, i.e. Child-Pugh Class C 4. Currently receiving maintenance dialysis treatment 5. Congestive heart failure, i.e., New York Heart Association Class III or IV, untreated or unstable ischaemic heart disease, history of severe aortic or mitral valve disease, history of multiple ventricular pre-systole, multiple atrial pre-systole, or atrial fibrillation, and severe sinus bradycardia (heart rate = 180 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure >= 110 mmHg 9. Haemoglobin less than 10 g/dl. 10. Failure of initial intubation, presence or likelihood of a difficult airway 11. debilitation (FRAIL Scale score of 3-5)
