Subthreshold depression

Interventions

Healthy control group:None
Aerobic exercise group:In a laboratory setting, participants engaged in moderate-intensity power cycling for eight consecutive weeks, three to four times per week, with each session lasting 30 minutes
Sitting control group:In a laboratory setting, there was a period of eight consecutive weeks of sedentary rest, with three to four sessions per week, each lasting for 30 minutes.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Healthy control group: Both depression scale assessments required CES-D score = 16, BDI-II score 14-28, and PHQ-9 score >= 5; confirmed by MINI clinical interview, current does not meet the diagnostic criteria for DSM-5 Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Other inclusion criteria: Age 18-28 years old, full-time undergraduate and graduate students, Han ethnicity, right-handed: Normal color vision: No history of current or past MDD or other severe mental disorders (including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, intellectual disability, etc.); No history of alcohol or drug dependence; No depression-related intervention in the past 1 year (including antidepressant drugs or psychological treatment); No significant suicide risk (BDI-II item 9 score <= 1, and PHQ-9 item 9 score < 1).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Left-handed; (2) Color blindness or color weakness; (3) Has a history of severe depression and other serious mental disorders (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, intellectual disability, etc.); (4) Has a history of alcohol or drug addiction; (5) In the past three months, there has been no physical trauma such as fractures or sprains; (6) Has any of the exercise contraindications listed in the physical activity readiness questionnaire.
