Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Inclusion criteria for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD): meet the diagnostic criteria for depression defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5); either drug-naïve or having completed a 7- to 10-day wash-out period; Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) score >=17; age 18–65 years. 2.Inclusion criteria for healthy control subjects: never meet DSM-5 criteria for any psychiatric disorder, including depression; HAMD score <=7; age 18–65 years.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Exclusion criteria (apply to both groups): history of neurological disorders, traumatic brain injury, or cranial surgery;metallic implants within the skull;elevated intracranial pressure;cardiac metallic stents or wires;cardiac pacemaker;.in-the-ear hearing aids;family or personal history of epilepsy;.prior electroconvulsive therapy; pregnancy; current suicidal intent or severe psychotic symptoms requiring urgent pharmacological intervention; refusal to provide informed consent.
