Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Inclusion Criteria for Patients with Major Depressive Disorder: (1) Meet the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for depressive episodes; (2) 18-60 years old; (3) IQ above 70; (4) The course of disease is less than 5 years; (5) The disease was controlled by drugs and was not in the onset period; (6) Right-handed; (7) Normal visual and auditory function. 2. Inclusion Criteria for Subthreshold Depression Group: (1) Individuals with BDI scale scores higher than 16, but not meet the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for depressive episodes; (2) 18-60 years; (3) IQ above 70; (4) Right-handed; (5) Normal visual and auditory function. 3. Inclusion Criteria for Healthy Control Group: (1) Matched demographic characteristics such as age and gender; (2) Normal visual and auditory function; (3) Right-handed.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Exclusion Criteria for Depressed Patients: (1) Non-convulsive electroconvulsive therapy (MECT) was used within 8 weeks; (2) Antipsychotics were significantly adjusted within 8 weeks; (3) Perinatal trauma; (4) Substance and/or alcohol abuse; (5) Co-occurrence of other Axis I psychiatric disorders; (6) History of local brain injury or neurological diseases; (7) Other conditions that may cause adverse reactions from audiovisual interventions (e.g., severe photosensitive epilepsy). 2. Exclusion Criteria for Subthreshold Depression Group: (1) History or current diagnosis of DSM-5 depressive episode, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or other Axis I psychiatric disorders; (2) Currently receiving pharmacological treatment, systematic psychotherapy, or counseling; (3) Substance and/or alcohol dependence; (4) History of local brain injury or neurological diseases; (5) Other conditions that may cause adverse reactions from audiovisual interventions (e.g., severe photosensitive epilepsy). 3. Exclusion Criteria for Healthy Control Group: (1) Diagnosis of any psychiatric disorder according to DSM-5; (2) Currently receiving pharmacological treatment, systematic psychotherapy, or counseling; (3) Substance and/or alcohol dependence; (4) History of local brain injury or neurological diseases; (5) Other conditions that may cause adverse reactions from audiovisual interventions (e.g., severe photosensitive epilepsy).
