Interventions

Psychodrama Group Counseling Intervention Group:Receive a six-week group psychodrama intervention, once per week, lasting approximately 2–3 hours per session.
Psychodrama Group Counseling Control Group:During the study period, no additional interventions related to this project will be accepted
only routine mental health education services will be maintained.
Mandala Painting Group Counseling Intervention Group:Receive a six-week group art therapy intervention involving mandala drawing, once per week, lasting approximately 2-3 hours per session.
Mandala Painting Group Counseling Control Group:During the study period, no additional interventions related to this project will be accepted

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria for Participants in the Psychodrama Group Counseling 1. Objective Academic Performance, including: (1) GPA ranking consistently in the bottom 20% of the major/class for two consecutive academic years (excluding cases due to leave of absence, serious illness, etc.); (2) Course failure, defined as having failed two or more courses in the most recent academic year. 2. Teacher/Counselor Recommendation, based on the observation and evaluation of students’ daily learning performance/behaviors (e.g., absenteeism, assignment procrastination, classroom participation, missing exams, etc.). 3. Semi-structured Interview, with an interview protocol developed by the researcher to identify, confirm, and recruit participants based on the following three aspects: (1) Perceived lack of ability, e.g., "I just can’t learn this well"; (2) Negative expectations toward learning goals, e.g., "Effort won’t help anyway"; (3) Avoidance of academic challenges, e.g., opting out of elective courses perceived as difficult. Inclusion Criteria for Participants in the Mandala Painting Group Counseling 1. Academic and Stress Context, including: (1) Being a full-time graduate student in the normal phase of training; (2) Subjectively perceiving significant academic, research, or employment pressure and expressing sustained psychological stress experiences during the interview. 2. Psychological Resilience Level, including: (1) Total score on the Psychological Resilience Scale falling at a moderate or lower level; (2) Room for improvement in dimensions such as hardiness, strength, or optimism. 3. Emotional State, specifically: Low levels of positive emotion or high levels of negative emotion, without meeting clinical diagnostic criteria. 4. Semi-structured Interview, including: (1) Displaying insufficient confidence in coping with stress, e.g., "I tend to break down when facing difficulties" or "It’s hard for me to adjust quickly"; (2) Holding certain negative expectations or feelings of uncertainty about the future; (3) Expressing a desire to enhance emotion regulation skills or psychological resilience.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria for Participants in Psychodrama Group Counseling 1. Mental Health Indicators, including: (1) Presence of significant psychological issues such as anxiety or depression; (2) Presence of cognitive impairment or neurological disorders; (3) Current engagement in other individual or group psychotherapy. 2.Physiological Indicators, including: (1) Presence of somatization symptoms (e.g., sleep disorders); (2) Recent poor physical health; (3) Significant alcohol or substance abuse/dependence issues. 3. Social and Practical Factors, including: (1) Recent experience of major negative life events; (2) Inability to commit to the required time investment and maintain group attendance stability; (3) Dual relationships or potential conflicts of interest with the group leader(s); (4) Strong discomfort or resistance toward the psychodrama format. Exclusion Criteria for Participants in Mandala Painting Group Counseling 1. Mental Health Indicators: Presence of moderate to severe anxiety, depression, or other serious psychological disorders. 2. Physiological Indicators, including: (1) Severe sleep disorders or pronounced somatization symptoms; (2) Recent poor physical health that would impede consistent participation in group activities; (3) Significant alcohol or substance abuse/dependence issues. 3. Cognitive and Participatory Capacity: Presence of cognitive impairment or neurological disorders.
