Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients with confirmed or suspected infection. 2.An increase in the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score of >=2 points from baseline for the rapid bedside screening of suspected sepsis patients, a quick SOFA (qSOFA) score of >=2 points may be used as the criterion. 3.For the diagnosis of septic shock, patients must require vasopressor therapy to maintain a mean arterial pressure (MAP) of >=65 mmHg despite adequate fluid resuscitation, and have a serum lactate level >2 mmol/L. 4.Voluntary participation in this study and provision of signed informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with active malignancy, end-stage chronic liver disease with cirrhosis, or those complicated by acute myocardial infarction or pulmonary embolism. 2.Patients with autoimmune diseases or immunodeficiency (e.g., HIV infection, use of immunosuppressants post-organ transplantation, long-term corticosteroid use). 3.Patients not admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 4.Patients with a "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) order or who refuse further life-sustaining treatments. 5.Onset of sepsis >48 hours before arrival at the research center (The determination of the SOFA score must be based on laboratory data over a period therefore, the time of onset is calculated from the estimated point when SOFA >2). 6.Vulnerable populations, including individuals with psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment, minors, and pregnant women, in addition to critically ill patients/elderly individuals/illiterates.
