Interventions

Intervention Group 2:Additional supplementation with 2.5 g of ?-3 PUFA per day
Control group:Maintenance of routine management during the baseline period
Intervention Group 1:Additional supplementation with 1.5 g of CaHMB per day
Intervention duration: 12 weeks
Intervention Group 3:Additional daily supplementation with 1.5 g CaHMB plus 2.5 g ?-3 PUFA

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Clinically diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus according to the 1999 WHO criteria; 2.Diagnosed with pre-sarcopenia according to the 2019 consensus guidelines of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS); 3.Aged 60 years or older; 4.With normal communication and cognitive abilities; 5.Voluntarily participated in the study and provided written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Use of CaHMB and/or ?-3 PUFA supplements within 6 months prior to study initiation; 2.Presence of acute diabetic complications, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, or hypoglycemia; 3.Diagnosis of hyperthyroidism or other diseases that may affect hormonal regulation or muscle metabolism (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory myopathies, Parkinson’s disease); 4.Use of anticoagulants, hormonal agents, or immunosuppressive medications within the past 6 months; 5.Presence of acute or chronic infections, malignancies, hematologic disorders, liver disease, or renal dysfunction; 6.Long-term smoking (more than 10 cigarettes per day for over 10 years) or heavy alcohol consumption (more than 40 g/day for men or more than 20 g/day for women); 7.Cognitive impairment, psychiatric disorders, or communication difficulties that may interfere with study participation.
