Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Aged between 18 and 65 years. (2) Received treatment at the Periodontal Department of the Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine between April 1, 2017, and December 31, 2022; was diagnosed with periodontal disease and had a preliminary periodontal examination at that time. (3) CBCT scans were taken within 3 months before and after the preliminary periodontal examination. (4) There is no absence of either the first or second maxillary molar on one side; in addition, the second maxillary molar has not undergone root canal treatment, and there are no signs of root fracture, root resorption, or periapical lesions.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Presence of jaw and facial cysts or tumors, or maxillary fractures; (2) Unclear CBCT images, with restorations, implants, metal fillings, etc. in the posterior maxillary region that affect the quality of the images and the accuracy of the measurements; (3) Patients who smoke, have diabetes, or have undergone radiation or chemotherapy; (4) Patients who have been taking medications that affect bone metabolism or bone healing for a long time (such as immunosuppressants, phenytoin sodium, bisphosphonates, etc.).
