Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Received mechanical ventilation for >=48 hours and successfully weaned off the ventilator; 2. On the day of extubation, three bedside ultrasound measurements of diaphragmatic parameters were taken, with end-expiratory diaphragmatic thickness <=2mm. 3. Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. A history of severe cardiopulmonary disease (e.g., New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class = III or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) GOLD stage >= 3); 2. History of neuromuscular disease; 3. Severe obesity (defined as a body mass index [BMI] greater than 35); 4. Pregnancy; 5. The clinical prognosis was deemed insignificant, and the decision to forgo life-sustaining treatment was documented.
