Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Age greater than 18 years; 2. Admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 3. Presence of circulatory failure requiring Pulse Indicator Continuous Cardiac Output (PiCCO) monitoring; 4. Informed consent obtained from the patient or legally authorized representative
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Inability to cooperate with the completion of a neck vessel ultrasound, such as in cases of altered mental status or agitation; 2. Presence of cervical trauma or prior cervical surgery, use of a cervical collar, short neck anatomy, or severe cervical kyphosis; 3. Moderate to severe carotid artery stenosis or carotid thromboembolic disease; 4. Bilateral internal jugular or subclavian venous catheter placement; 5. Cardiac arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation; 6. Echocardiographic evidence within the past month of significant mitral or tricuspid regurgitation, or right ventricular dysfunction (defined as tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion 16 mmHg), intracranial hypertension, recent lower limb surgery or trauma; 8. Strong spontaneous respiratory drive leading to irregular Doppler flow patterns in the internal jugular vein.
