Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. 15 years old and above; 2. Able to provide informed consent; 3. For healthy controls: no history of neurological or severe medical diseases, substance abuse or mental disorders.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Unable to provide valid written consent; 2. Pregnant, considering becoming pregnant, or lactating; 3. Significant medical co-morbidities; 4. Mental retardation; 5. Known posterior segment pathology (e.g., diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration).

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To report the ocular surface symptoms and signs and to examine the tear film and meibomian gland biomarkers in addictive substance users.;

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To correlate the severity and nature of ocular findings with substance type, duration of use, and abstinence, and are further associated with specific clinical and behavioral characteristics of the users.;
