Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with lower extremity atherosclerotic occlusive disease must have atherosclerotic lower extremity ischemic symptoms classified as >= Rutherford Class II, an ABI 50%. 2. Control group: Age- and sex-matched individuals without symptoms or signs of lower extremity ischemic claudication and with an ABI > 0.9.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Use of antibiotics or corticosteroids within the past 6 months. 2. Use of probiotics within the past 6 months. 3. History of gastrointestinal diseases (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease). 4. History of abdominal surgery (e.g., gastrectomy). 5. Major dietary changes within 1 week prior to sample collection. 6. Ongoing infectious disease, cancer, or renal or hepatic failure.
