Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients aged 12–18 years who meet the DSM-5 criteria for a depressive episode; 2. Right-handed; 3. With more than >6 years of formal education; 4. A baseline score >= 8 on the 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-24); 5. Provision of voluntary informed consent; 6. Serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3] level < 30 ng/L, as defined by the assessment criteria for vitamin D deficiency established by the Endocrine Society.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. History of psychiatric or manic disorders; 2. Inability to definitively attribute the depressive symptoms to major depressive disorder rather than other conditions (e.g., substance abuse, or relevant medical conditions including epilepsy and a history of abnormal EEG); 3. Comorbid severe or unstable medical illnesses; 4. History of neurological disorders or traumatic brain injury; 5. Any other condition deemed by the investigator as inappropriate for participation in this study.
