Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patient inclusion criteria were: 1) admission to the ICU with a diagnosis meeting each database's definition of critical illness; 2) receipt of continuous nutritional support for =72 hours during hospitalization to ensure sufficient data for analysis; and 3) availability of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) laboratory results in the database to facilitate the assessment of inflammatory status.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria comprised: 1) patients with severe pre-admission malnutrition or long-term specialized nutrition therapy, which could confound the relationship between in-hospital nutritional support and outcomes; 2) patients with comorbidities that significantly alter nutrient metabolism or inflammatory pathways (e.g., rare genetic metabolic diseases, chronic rheumatological inflammatory diseases), as their inclusion would prevent the results from reflecting generalizable patterns; and 3) patients with extensive missing data, specifically on key inflammatory markers, nutritional records, or outcomes, rendering them unsuitable for statistical analysis.
