Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria for the retrospective study: 1. Age >= 18 years; 2. Complete medical records, including demographic characteristics (age, gender, ethnicity, etc.), clinical diagnosis information (diagnosis time and basis of depression/asthma), treatment plans (type and dosage of medication), and follow-up records; 3. Depression diagnosis meets relevant clinical criteria, and asthma diagnosis conforms to the "Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Asthma (2020 Edition)". Inclusion criteria for the MR study (GWAS data): 1. Data have undergone strict quality control; 2. The research subjects are of European origin (to reduce population stratification bias); 3. There is a clear division between the case group and the control group, along with sample size information.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Retrospective study exclusion criteria: 1. Comorbid wComorbid with other severe mental disorders (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder); 2. Comorbid with severe respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer); 3. Comorbid with severe organ failure (such as heart, liver, kidney dysfunction); 4. Missing key information in the medical records (such as diagnosis time, core symptoms, treatment plan). MR study exclusion criteria (for IV screening): 1. The association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and exposure factors (depression / asthma) has a significant P value of >= 5×10^-8; 2. SNPs have high linkage disequilibrium (LD, r^2>= 0.001, distance <= 10000kb); 3. SNPs are located in the coding region or may affect gene expression regulation (exist risk of horizontal pleiotropy); 4. The F statistic of SNPs is < 10 (exist for weak instrumental variable bias).
