Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria were as follows: aged 13–19 years (based on WHO age stratification and the applicable age range of MECT for adolescents); meeting the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for depression with melancholic features, with a total Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score indicating severe depression (>24 points); a total Dimensional Anhedonia Rating Scale (DARS) score <= 22; informed consent provided by a guardian; and no use of antidepressant medications within the two weeks prior to enrollment.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria included: patients with a history of manic symptoms; those with depression induced by psychoactive substances or non-addictive substances; individuals with congenital mental disorders; and patients who failed to comply with prescribed medication or had incomplete medical records.
