Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 10–14 years at the time of enrollment. 2. Overweight, as determined by age- and sex-specific reference standards (WHO BMI-for-age z-score > +1 SD, or =85th percentile on national/WHO reference curves). 3. Residing in Guangzhou or surrounding areas and able to attend all study visits (baseline, end of the 8-week intervention, and 3-month post-intervention follow-up). 4. Medically evaluated by a pediatric clinician and cleared to engage in moderate-intensity physical activity and to participate in a lifestyle intervention. 5. Not currently participating in any other structured weight-management or athletic training program, and no such participation in the past 3 months. 6. At least one parent/guardian able to support the participant’s involvement (e.g., transportation, meal preparation) and complete the parent questionnaire.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. History or current presence of diseases that affect body weight/metabolism (e.g., hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome, diabetes mellitus, genetic obesity syndromes). 2. Use of medications within the past 3 months that markedly affect body weight (e.g., systemic glucocorticoids, certain antipsychotics). 3. Contraindications to exercise or functional limitations that preclude participation in routine physical activity. 4. Requirement for specialized medical nutrition or severe allergy to key components of the intervention diet (e.g., individuals who must adhere to a strict medical formula diet).
