Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria — Intervention and Active Control Groups: 1. Parents who have normal cognitive and comprehension abilities and agree to participate in this study. 2. Parents are at least 18 years old, and mainly responsible for daily care of the autistic children. 3. Parents must have a child (aged 3-6 years old) with a diagnosis of ASD, which will be assessed by a certified doctor using: The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria, or scores above the cut-off of 28 (indicative of a "mild-to-moderate" level of autistic behaviors) for Questionnaire for Parents or Caregivers of Childhood Autism Rating Scale – Second Edition (CARS2-QPC), or scores above the cut- off of 85 (indicative of a "very likely" probability of autism according to the test manual and the interpretive guide) for Gilliam Autism Rating Scale– Second Edition (GARS-2). The child’s ASD condition is stable, and his consciousness is clear. Inclusion Criteria — Typically Developing Children (Control Group): 1. Parents who have normal cognitive and comprehension abilities and agree to participate in this study. 2. Parents are at least 18 years old, and mainly responsible for daily care. 3. Parents must have a typically developing child (aged 3-6 years old). The child’s consciousness is clear.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria — Parents (Intervention and Active Control groups) 1. Parents who are not the primary caregiver of a child with autism. 2. Parents who cannot provide documentation or confirmation of a past or current diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for the child. 3. Parents who have been diagnosed with a head injury, a chronic medical condition (e.g., cancer, coronary heart disease), a psychiatric disorder, or a visual impairment (e.g., color blindness, amblyopia), where the condition substantially limits their ability to participate in the study (e.g., understanding, evaluating, reasoning, or expressing choices). We will include three attention-check items in the questionnaires (e.g., "Thank you for your careful completion. Please select C for this item.") to assess data quality. If a parent fails two or more attention checks, their responses will be considered potentially careless and that parent’s data will be excluded from the analyses. Exclusion criteria — Children (Intervention and Active Control groups) 1. Children younger than 3 years or older than 6 years. 2. Children who have not been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Exclusion criteria — Parents (Typically Developing Children control group) 1. Parents who are the primary caregiver of a child with ASD. 2. Parents who have been diagnosed with a head injury, a chronic medical condition (e.g., cancer, coronary heart disease), a psychiatric disorder, or a visual impairment (e.g., myopia, red–green color deficiency, amblyopia), where the condition substantially limits their ability to participate in the study. We will include three attention-check items in the questionnaires (e.g., "Thank you for your careful completion. Please select C for this item.") to assess data quality. If a parent fails two or more attention checks, their responses will be considered careless and that parent’s data will be excluded from the analyses. Exclusion criteria — Children (Typically Developing Children control group) 1. Children younger than 3 years or older than 6 years. 2. Children who have been diagnosed with autism or other developmental disorders (e.g., attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, ADHD).
