Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Inclusion criteria for the pericoronitis group: (1) Clinically diagnosed with pericoronitis of the mandibular third molar, or with a history of pericoronitis of the mandibular third molar; (2) Able to cooperate with clinical examination. 2. Inclusion criteria for the control group: (1) Clinically diagnosed with an impacted mandibular third molar; (2) Able to cooperate with clinical examination.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Exclusion criteria for the impacted tooth group: (1) History of orthodontic treatment; (2) History of mandibular orthognathic surgery; (3) Displacement of the mandibular third molar due to missing mandibular teeth; (4) Other pathological conditions involving the mandibular third molar region. 2. Exclusion criteria for the control group: (1) History of pericoronitis of the mandibular third molar; (2) History of orthodontic treatment; (3) History of mandibular orthognathic surgery; (4) Displacement of the mandibular third molar due to missing mandibular teeth; (5) Other pathological conditions involving the mandibular third molar region.
