Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. 18 to 40 years old; 2. history of at least one significant ankle sprain that occurred at least 12 months prior to participation, resulting in inflammatory syndrome (pain, swelling, etc.) and at least one day of interruption of desired physical activity; 3. occurrence of the most recent injury more than three months ago; 4. history of previously injured ankle joint ‘giving way’ (=2 episodes of giving way in the 6 months prior to study enrollment), recurrent sprains (two or more sprains to the same ankle) or "feelings of instability"; 5. Ankle Instability Instrument = 5 ‘yes’, Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool = 24; 6. no prior rehabilitation; 7. not bilateral CAI or medial ankle sprains.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. experienced fractures, musculoskeletal disorders, nervous and vestibular system diseases or other conditions that could affect postural control, sensory function or central nervous system; 2. foot deformity (flat foot, hallux valgus etc., screened by therapist).
