Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: HIE with infection group (meeting both conditions 1 and 2) and HIE group (meeting only condition 1) 1.Diagnostic criteria for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) (meeting conditions (1), (2), and (3), and grading diagnosis according to condition (4)) ;(1) Clear obstetric history indicating fetal distress and severe fetal distress signs (fetal heart rate =12 mmol/L. (3) Neurological symptoms appearing shortly after birth and lasting for more than 24 hours, such as altered consciousness (hyperexcitability, lethargy, coma), changes in muscle tone (increased or decreased), abnormal primitive reflexes (weak or absent sucking or Moro reflexes), seizures in severe cases, brainstem signs (altered breathing rhythm, abnormal pupil size or reactivity to light), and increased anterior fontanel tension. (4) Clinical grading of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (mild or above). 2.Elevated peripheral blood PCT within 72 hours after birth, or abnormal WBC count (elevated >2510^9/L or decreased 15/µL), predominantly neutrophils, along with elevated protein and decreased glucose;(3) Abnormal chest X-ray findings with respiratory symptoms. Non-exposed group: healthy control newborns or infants with mild hypoglycemia.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Excluding seizures caused primarily by electrolyte disturbances (such as hypocalcemia, hypoglycemia), birth trauma, intracranial hemorrhage, as well as brain injury resulting from genetic metabolic disorders and other congenital diseases.
