Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Depression patients group: 1. Adolescents aged 14–35 years with first-episode, untreated major depressive disorder; 2. Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) score >= 12; 3. 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-24) score >= 8; 4. No history of comorbid psychiatric disorders (e.g., epilepsy, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder); 5. No history of dependence on psychotropic medications; 6. No history of organic brain diseases; 7. Absence of severe somatic illnesses and no comorbid psychiatric conditions; 8. No acute/chronic infections, trauma, inflammation, fever, or allergic history within the past 2 weeks; 9. No history of alcohol or substance abuse; 10. Right-handed. Healthy participants group: 1. Screened negative for all psychiatric disorders via standardized questionnaires; 2. Aged 14–35 years, regardless of sex; 3. Matched to the depression group for sex and educational level; 4. Voluntarily participated and provided written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Depression patients group: 1. Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) score < 12; 2. 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-24) score < 9; 3. History of comorbid psychiatric disorders; 4. Prior exposure to psychotropic medications for psychiatric treatment; 5. Refusal to provide written informed consent for the study. Healthy participants group: 1. Presence of organic brain diseases; 2.Current severe somatic illness, substance dependence, or psychotic symptoms; 3. Use of cognition-impairing medications within the past month; 4. Alcohol or substance dependence; 5. Intellectual disability precluding completion of study assessments.
