Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Age: 8–12 years. 2) Clinical diagnosis of perennial allergic conjunctivitis (PAC): Diagnostic features included subjective symptoms (ocular itching, tearing, redness, and discharge occurring in multiple seasons or almost throughout the year) and objective signs (conjunctival hyperemia and chemosis without papillary hypertrophy). 3) Skin prick test (SPT): Positive for dust mite allergens. 4) Normal control group: Age- and sex-matched children without a history of allergic diseases or dry eye, and negative for dust mite allergens on SPT. 5) Refractive status in both groups: Spherical equivalent refractive error between -3.00 D and +3.00 D.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Ocular diseases: Exclusion of other ocular diseases, including history of ocular surgery or trauma, entropion with trichiasis, eyelid malformations, active ocular infections, and a history of topical or systemic medications within the past 3 months. 2) Systemic diseases: Poor general condition, inability to cooperate with ocular examinations, or presence of systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, nephrotic syndrome, and other systemic immune disorders. 3) Refractive status: Children in either group with a spherical equivalent refractive error less than -3.00 D or greater than +3.00 D.
